The Oi River between Suruga and Totomi Province Series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji
The series '36 Views of Mount Fuji 'was published in the year of death (1858) of the artist. It consists, including the title page of 37 representations and has been issued in the format oban tate-e. These woodblock prints are the last designed by Hiroshige. Strong men carry bamboo palanquins by the Oi River, which flows through the provinces of Suruga and Totomi. Wealthy noblemen in silk kimonos are brought from one bank to another. On the horizon, Mount Fuji can be seen in the distance. This vertical print measures 10.25" high by 7.5" long, including the margins. It is in excellent condition, with a more narrow margin on the left, in which the left side of the print had been tucked in an old portfolio. It has vivid colors, no tears or holes. It bears Hiroshige's Kanji cipher and a title box in Kanji script. Originally published c1858, this later edition print dates to c1950.    P4016
