'Empty Prayers' Pre-Earthquake 1st Edition d1916
This beautiful woodblock print by Hiroaki (Shotei) depicts a woman with a lantern walking by a shrine in the night under a crescent moon. This print bears Shôtei's rare pre-earthquake seal and signature from 1916, along with Watanabe's 9mm seal, which authenticates the 1916 date.  This edition, in chuban-size format, measures 9.5" x 7".   It is in very good original condition, with superb color. The print is tipped at the top edges to its original mat backing sheet, which is marked 'Made in Japan' on the backside.   P8563              $1295.00
