'Sparrows on Nandin Bush'
This beautiful winter snow scene print depicts two sparrows perched on a Nandina bush covered with red/orange berries. The rich sable brown of the bird's feathers creates a lovely contrast with the white of the snow, the green foliage, and the soft blue gray of the sky. Koson is well-known for the exquisite details in his nature prints, said to have produced more than 450 bird woodblocks, and this one is exceptional. This print series was produced in 1930. This edition dates to the early 1930s. It bears Koson's 'Shoson' seals and the marks of the publisher Watanabe, from the 1930s. The print measures 10.25" x 7", and is handsomely matted and framed in a simple black frame measuring 15" x 12". It is in excellent original condition with superb color and just minimal generalized toning. P35314 $495.00
