The Battle of Incheon: A Righteous Battle for Punishment
This print depicts the first battle of the Russo-Japanese War in 1904, the Battle of Incheon. The armored cruiser Asama is making a surprise attack on the Russian fleet. The Russo-Japanese War was a war between Japan and Russia over control of Manchuria (present-day Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang provinces in China) and Korea. First, the Japanese army landed in Incheon (present-day South Korea) and made a surprise attack on the Russian fleet anchored in Incheon Port, declaring war. As a result, the Russian gunboat Koreets was sunk and the protected cruiser Varyag was scuttled, resulting in victory.
