'Shinobazu Pond' from the Series Sketches of Famous Places In Japan

This twilight scene depicts a city in light reflecting on the dark Shinobazu Pond in Ueno, Tokyo. The two willow trees are seen in silhouette with no leaves, revealing winter time. The reflection of lights from Tokyo across the pond are a spectacle. There is a walking path midway that shows shrubs, lanterns and people all as dark silhouettes reflecting on the water. This park exists largely intact to this day in Ueno, in central Tokyo. This design is highly sought after due to the popularity of Ueno Park. Hasui captured lantern light beautifully in this image with fabulous gradation of color and bokashi shading, bringing this print to life, simply stunning in its presentation. This print was first introduced in 1932. This is a later edition from the early 1940s. This edition is authenticated by Hasui's seal in the lower right of the print, along with its title and date marks in the right margin, and the Doi Publisher seals and ciphers in the left margin.. The print, matted in ivory, has a sight size of 10.25" x 15.25", and the simple black frame measures 16.5" x 20.5".  It is in excellent original condition.                   P05337                       $1895.00
