'Red Fuji: Fine Wind, Clear Weather ', Series 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji', Number 2. One of the most famous and sought after woodblock prints of all time. Fuji is said to take on a red color in the early morning and around sunset. This is especially noticeable on a summer day with the undulating clouds and a clear sky as shown here. The design is simple, yet an artistic masterpiece. 'Red Fuji', along with 'The Great Wave' are thought to be the best prints of the series and the masterworks of Hokusai's career. The original print was published c1830 -1834. This is a later edition from 100 years later, c1930, it was published by Mr. Adachi, a well known publisher in the 1920s-30s, and it bears the Adachi Institute paper label on the rear of the folder. This print is in superb condition, tipped in on the top edges in its original folder. The print is crisp and clean, with exceptional color and bokashi shading.
