This lovely watercolor painting on silk-like parchment depicts a beautiful scenic with a gorgeous Blue Magpie on a Bamboo branch laden with leaves. The Magpie is expertly painted and the leaves and Bamboo are lush in their presentation. John Cheng uses mixed media in his art. This painting, on the finest and most delicate parchment is matted in an ivory mat that is also hand painted in watercolors, a signature accent of Cheng's silk art works. John Cheng (Japanese American b.1965)
John Cheng is a Los Angeles based artist, designer and illustrator. He graduated from the University of Southern California Roski School of Fine Arts and currently works as a full time graphic designer and co-founder of Winnow & Glean, a Los Angeles-based creative studio, where design and storytelling go hand-in-hand. John Cheng is a designer and illustrator who mixes classical art techniques with modern aesthetics.
A lifelong creator and tinkerer, John is skilled in a variety of processes, including printmaking, silk screening, drawing, painting, model molds, and photography, which allow him to bring any idea to life across media.
Previously, John oversaw branding and visual identity for City of Hope’s Hope Sweat and Cures campaign, their annual Celebrity Softball Game held in Nashville, Tennessee, and their float in the 2016 Rose Parade. While working for the University of Southern California, John oversaw the creative direction of campus entertainment events featuring Esperanza Spaulding, Andrew Bird, Eddie Izzard, Rain Wilson, Scott Hoying, Rozzi Crane, and more, and art directed posters and marketing campaigns for the School of Dramatic Arts.
