'Mountain/Lake Landscape in Spring'
This handsome silk painting depicts a mountain and lake scene painting after Daqian, a wonderfully talented Chinese painter of the 20th century. He was well known for his landscape paintings, particularly his later mid-century images, which incorporated some abstract touches. He died in 1983 and many painters of the 20th century emulated his work, during and after his lifetime. We do not know who the artist was as we cannot read his cipher. This painting presents in a rather sketchy ink outline, with very refined painting touches. It is a rich and vibrant mountain and lake landscape in springtime, with trees in bloom and green hues dominating over a silk ground. Interestingly, a ferryman poles his boat with one passenger on a calm lake, who appears to be an artist painting a landscape, perhaps in homage to Daqian. The painting's sight size is 12.5" x 15.5", and the handsome wood frame with a dual gold beaded trim measures 14" x 17". This painting is in excellent condition. P4011 $95.00
