'Butterflies'

This painting on parchment depicts a 'kaleidoscope' or group of Butterflies fluttering in a beautiful spectacle of colors. The details are amazing! This painting is well-signed with the artist's chop marks, and while it clearly is akin to the Chinese painter Ma Quan, we cannot read the artist's cipher. This work is likely from the mid-20th century, and clearly paying homage to Ma Quan. The painting sight size under its silk mat in ivory with a gold bead is about 9" x 14", and the Asian wood frame measures 13" x 17.5". It has its original trellis wood backing, covered in mulberry paper as per Chinese custom. This painting is in original condition. The colors are superb, and the imagery is quite pleasing. The glare in the photos produces the shadows and shading, the painting is quite uniform in color.                                                                         P9523               $135.00
