'Cuckoo & Summer Evening'

There is a Cuckoo bird flying over the moon in the scene, which portrays a man and a courtesan, on a warm summer evening.  This Toyokuni III woodblock print was published by Isekane, Edo in 1852.  This print has been certified as a lifetime edition by Toyokuni III by The Kabutoya Galleries, Inc., in San Francisco, California, a well respected print gallery, which originally sold this print.  Kabutoya represented many contemporary shin hanga artists in the mid-twentieth century, hosting many important exhibitions.  The print sight size is 14.25" x 9.75", and the frame measures 20.5" x 16.75".  P4041
