'The Bathers and The Voyeurs'
- painting looks to be a combination print with both woodblock qualities and watercolor properties. It is painted on superb Japanese paper. The scene depicts eight women bathing by a stream off a hillside. As the scene unfolds, we notice two men between some rocks taking in the view. The bathers go about their business seemingly unaware of prying eyes. This playful scene has beautiful color, with nice depth of field, adding dimension to the print. It is unsigned. The backside is inscribed to 'Mrs. Sandy', from 'Stevenson Family'. This large print measures 12.75" x 15.5", and the vintage Asian-style teak wood frame measures 17.5" x 24.75". It is matted with a silk brocade border, which is beautifully matted. It has an ornate metal hanger. print is in fine condition, with normal handling wear, but no apologies. There is a Japanese mulberry paper lightweight container box on the backside of the frame, with a tiny nick into the mulberry paper. Given its style, we think this print likely dates to c1930.
