This lovely, serene woodblock print depicts the gateway to Itsukushima Shrine, which is a Shinto shrine on the island of Itsukushima (known as Miyajima), and best known for its "floating" torii gate. It is in the city of Hatsukaichi in Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan. The scene reveals a light rain shower, with the torii in full view. It is framed by a large and wandering Japanese Pine tree, which adds to its very graceful presentation. This woodblock bears Koitsu's cipher and seal, and the Doi Publisher's seals, along with the carver and printer seals. This print was introduced in 1936, and while this is not a first edition, it dates to c1940. It's sight size measures 15" x 7" under its black mat. It is framed in a nice black frame measuring 18" x 12".      P55322         $495.00
