'Evening at Miidera Temple'
This lovely woodblock print depicts an evening scene at Miidera Temple, with visitors strolling around the temple grounds. Mii-dera, formally called Onjō-ji, is a Buddhist temple in Japan located at the foot of Mount Hiei, in the city of Ōtsu in Shiga Prefecture. It is only a short distance from both Kyoto, and Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake. Koitsu's use of color is amazing, with everything bathed in a blue hue, like an aijuri-e (blue) print, simply a gorgeous print. This print is an early edition print, published in August 1936 by Doi Sadaichi Publishers. Koitsu's marks are noted in the lower left of the print. It was carved by Ikeda, printed by Yokoi. This printed is matted in black with a sight size of 10" x 7.5", and its authentic original Japanese wood-backed veneer frame measures 15" x 12". This print is in excellent original condition.
