'Owl and Cherry Blossoms'
This woodblock print depicts an owl in a cherry tree, in full bloom, in spring. It is a large oban size print, with a sight size of 15.5" x 10.5", and the frame measures 22.5" x 16.5". It is handsomely matted in its original frame. This print was introduced c1950 and it dates to the period. It bears both Kotozuka’s signature and his artist seals within the block. This woodcut is printed upon fine mulberry paper bearing the Kyoto publisher’s seal for ‘Uchida’, along with Uchida's watermark and the registration ‘kento’ notch in the lower right corner, under the mat. It is a fine, original example of the Sosaku Hanga art of Eiichi Kotozuka, who studied at the Kyoto Specialist School of Painting. Kotozuka created quite a number of woodblocks depicting unique scenes of Japanese tradition, flowers, landscapes and wildlife. He was a member of the Seiryusha Group of Liberal Artists. P3824 $145.00
