Miyajima Island, one of the most scenic spots in Japan, has long been regarded as an Island of Gods on the beautiful Seto Inland Sea. It is a romantic and historical island where Itsukushima Shrine, a World Heritage site, is located, along with the Virgin Forest of Mt. Misen, and numerous preserved shrines, temples and historical monuments. This original lifetime woodblock print by Hasui depicts a very serene setting, with remarkable reflection on the water's surface, amazing talent for sure. It was first published in 1947. This woodblock is marked with the Watanabe 6mm seal in the lower right corner, so it was published between 1947-1957, in Hasui's lifetime. It bears Hasui's cipher in the lower left. This print, which has wonderful color and execution, measures oban size at 15.5" long by 10.5" high. It is in very good condition, with minor toning and mat lines from a previous matting, which are not offensive.
