'Bird in a Persimmon Tree'
This handsome woodblock print depicts a bird in a Persimmon tree with lush hanging fruit. Nishinomiya Yosaku, a Tokyo publisher worked with a number of artists in the early 20th century on several series of Kacho-e, or 'bird and flower' prints, which progressed to a new level during the shin hanga movement. Given the publisher's seal, we know that this print dates to the Taisho period c1912-1926. This print has a subtle beauty, with soft colors and rich persimmon fruit.
