'Chikugo River'

This woodblock print, depicts an evening scene along the River Chikugo with a lantern-lit river camp/home providing an evening glow as twilight turns to evening. This print is a classic example of Hiroshi Yoshida's mastery of the shin hanga movement and his ability to capture twilight in such an ethereal blue presentation. This print measures 16" long by 10.75" high, including the margins. Without margins, the color print is 14.75" long by 10" high, so 1/2" margins approximately.The colors are lush with rich greens and blues and no toning or blemishes. This print was first published in 1927. This edition is sealed with Yosida's Japanese cipher, along with the title of the print in Kanji script in the left margin, and as per Yoshida's standard the title and his name are noted in English in the lower margin in pencil.
