'New Brooms'

This woodcut print by Helen Hyde entitled 'New Brooms', depicts a charming scene with two little girls sweeping leaves with their new brooms.  One little girl carries her doll swaddled on her back, so that her hands are free to toil away.  This lovely print has all the charms of Helen Hyde prints in which children take the center stage in a simple activity that warms the heart. This rarely seen print is numbered 92, in a limited edition, and bears Hyde's seals and signature in pencil, along with the date 1910.  It has some no harm fray and wear in the top margin from its previous mount.  The print sight size is 7" x 5.25", and the frame measures 20.5" x 17".  The actual print size is much larger because of an extra wide margin all around (under the mat), therefore a larger frame to avoid altering the print.  Helen Hyde traveled to Europe and China, and in 1899, she arrived in Japan to begin training with master artist Tomonobu Kano.  Hyde's prints are highly prized by collectors and considered scarce, if not quite rare.   P80033
