'Miss Plum Blossom'
This original etching by Helen Hyde entitled 'Miss Plum Blossom' or 'Little Miss Plum Blossom' depicts a charmingly sweet child holding a toy on a string. This lovely color etching has all the charms of Helen Hyde prints in which children take the center stage in a simple activity that warms the heart. This very rarely seen etching is numbered 77, in a limited edition of 100, and bears Hyde's etching 'leaf' seal and signature in pencil. Hyde started her art career in San Francisco, in Chinatown. This etching dates to 1897, made while Hyde was still in San Francisco, a very early print. She decorated and colored this etching in various colors and patterns, some plain, and some finely decorated like this one. The print measures 6" x 4", and the frame measures 10.5" x 7.5". It is matted in a simple cream mat and a beautiful vintage period frame. It is in wonderful original condition. Helen Hyde traveled to Europe and China, and in 1899, she arrived in Japan to begin training with master artist Tomonobu Kano. Hyde's etchings are highly prized by collectors and considered quite rare. P80027 $495.00
