'Beach-1'

This framed abstract woodcut by Haku Maki is entitled 'Beach-1'.  Maki's artistic name was Maejima Tadaaki, who was born in Ibaraki Prefecture. Maki was a sōsaku hanga artist in the 20th Century.  He carved in concrete and impressed his handmade paper to produce his blocks.  He used Kanji characters to convey his ideas, in this case, the Beach series.  This woodcut print, on finely crafted paper, is beautifully matted and expertly executed by Maki and signed by the artist. This framed woodcut is numbered #166/201, a first edition, c1970s.  It measures 4.5" square for the artwork, and 9" square for the frame.  This print is in excellent condition.  PS001/P32315
