'A Sedge of Cranes'
This woodblock print depicts a sedge or group of eight cranes in a marsh setting. Many artists, like Uno Joji produced prints of cranes in the style of Ogata Korin (1658-1743), whose work was considered a masterpiece of the early period. Korin produced prints with cranes in the 18th century, including a famous 6-panel screen print of the same subject. This woodblock print was produced in the early 20th century, but we cannot identify the mark of the artist, so it shall remain a mystery. The Kanji cipher is noted in the lower right corner. This lovely woodblock print is double-matted and beautifully framed. The print sight size is 9.5" x 8.25", and the black frame with a goldtone bead measures 14" x 12". P7131 $175.00
